How To Clean A Flat Screen TV or Computer Monitor

  1. Turn off the device. If the screen is dark, it will be easier to see the areas that are dirty or oily.

Turning the device off also prevents you from accidentally pushing buttons you don't actually want to push, which happens a lot when cleaning touchscreen devices like tablets, iPads, etc.

  2. Use a dry, soft cloth and very gently wipe the screen. A great choice would be the microfiber type of cloth used to clean eyeglass lenses. A dry eraser works well too.

See Tip #1 below for kinds of cloths to avoid.

  1. If the dry cloth did not completely remove the dirt or oil, do not press harder in an attempt to scrub it off.

Pushing directly on the screen can often cause pixels to burn out, especially on laptop displays, desktop monitors, and LCD/LED TV screens. This isn't so much an issue on screens designed to be touched, like phones and tablets, but be careful nonetheless.

  2. If necessary, dampen the cloth with distilled water or with an equal ratio of distilled water to white vinegar.

Many companies also sell small spray bottles of special cleaner for flat screens. Ultra makes a screen cleaning solution called Hydra LCD that people seem to like but honestly, the 50/50 white vinegar and water mix is probably just as effective.

See Tip #2 below for types of products to avoid.

  3. The plastic edge that surrounds the screen can be cleaned with any multipurpose cleaner but take care to avoid contact with the screen itself.

Tips & More Information

  1. Avoid using paper towels, toilet paper, tissue paper, or something like your shirt to wipe the screen. These non-ultrasoft materials can scratch the display.

  2. Avoid cleaning products that contain ammonia (like Windex®), ethyl alcohol (Everclear® or other strong drinking alcohol), toluene (paint solvents), as well as acetone or ethyl acetate (one or the other is often used in nail polish remover).

These chemicals can react with the materials that the flat screen is made of or coated with, which could permanently discolor the screen or cause other kinds of damage.

  3. Never spray liquid directly on to any screen. It could run inside the device and cause damage.

Obama climate change plan affects 2016 race

PRES. OBAMA

WASHINGTON — Combating climate change will protect the nation's economy, security, and health,President Obama said Monday in unveiling a plan designed to reduce power plant emissions and fated to be a major 2016 campaign issue.
"This is our moment to get this right," Obama said during a White House ceremony for formally unveil what he called his "Clean Power Plan."
The plan, a major plank in Obama's overall, climate change agenda,  immediately became a fault line in the emerging fight to succeed him as president.
Democratic presidential candidates praised the plan as a good way to confront the challenges of climate challenge; Republicans cast it as over-regulation that will reduce jobs and inflate utility bills, and vowed to change it if elected.
In his speech, Obama said that "no challenge poses a greater threat to our future" than climate change that is heating the atmosphere to record levels.
"There is such a thing as being too late," Obama said, blaming climate change for stronger storms, deeper droughts, and longer-lasting wildfire seasons.
Levels of carbon dioxide are the highest they have been in 800,000 years, Obama said, causing more cases of asthma and other diseases -- especially among children -- and threatening the nation's security. There are restrictions on other emissions, Obama said, but "there have never been federal limits on the amount of carbon that power plants can dump into the air."
While Obama laid out a stark vision of what could happen if not actions are taken, the next president will have a say on how — and if — Obama's proposed emission reductions are enforced.
New requirements — including the major one that carbon emissions be reduced 32% by the year 2030, relative to 2005 levels — kick in after Obama leaves office on Jan. 20, 2017, less than a year-and-a-half away.
The Clean Power Plan will also be the subject of lawsuits from energy interests who say the government is exceeding its authority with an ill-conceived "war on coal."
In praising the president's plan, Hillary Clinton — front-runner for the Democratic nomination in 2016 — said it "drives investments in clean energy and energy efficiency, reduces asthma attacks and premature deaths, and promotes a healthier environment and a stronger economy."
It also a "floor, not the ceiling," Clinton said, vowing to go further with pollution restrictions and other climate change projects if she is elected.
The plan will also need defending, Clinton said, because "Republican doubters and defeatists" don't want to offer "any credible solution" to the challenges of climate change.
Another Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders, said the plan sounds "like a step forward in ending our dependence on fossil fuel and I support that effort."
Republican presidential candidates are indeed taking aim at the president's power plant proposals, calling them an overreach that will have bad side effects

"The rule runs over state governments, will throw countless people out of work, and increases everyone's energy prices," said former Florida governor Jeb Bush.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Obama should call his project the "Costly Power Plan,"  saying "it will cost hard-working Americans jobs and raise their energy rates." Walker, like other GOP candidates, vowed to stop it if elected.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla,, questioned the value of any global climate change agreement, saying that China, India, and other developing nations "are going to continue to burn anything they can get their hands on."
Congressional Republicans also criticized the plan, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., noted that GOP lawmakers are moving to block the new regulations. Rather than work with Congress on "energy diversification," McConnell said, "this White House seems to want good politics, not good policy."
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said he has no doubt that "special interests and the politicians who are in their pocket" will fight the new rules. "But the fact is this a step in the right direction" to battling the effects of climate change, he said.
The plan arrives as the Obama administration ponders another major environmental decision: Whether or not to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, which would bring oil from the tar sands of Canada to the Gulf Coast.
Environmentalists oppose the project, say the nation should wean itself from dirty fossil fuels; energy companies — and the Republican presidential candidates — generally support the pipeline as a jobs and energy generator.
While complimentary of the new power plant plan, some environmental groups called on Obama — and presumably his successor — to go further. Some said the plan is at odds with other Obama policies, including permits to allow oil drilling in parts of the Arctic wilderness.
Obama plans to promote his climate change agenda at a series of high-profile events in the coming weeks, including a summit in Nevada and a first-ever presidential visit to the Alaskan Arctic. The president will also discuss climate change with Pope Francis when he visits the White House next month.

Later this year, delegates from the United States and other countries gather in Paris to discuss a global climate change agreement, another potential issue in next year's presidential election.
The National Mining Association, an opponent of the new power plant plan, called on the EPA to hold off on the new rules "have the opportunity to determine the lawfulness of the agency's attempt to commandeer the nation's electric grid."
Pledging to file suit one way or another, mining association president Hal Quinn said the plan "reflects political expediency, not reality for supplying the nation with low cost reliable power."
Administration officials said states will be given flexibility to comply with the new rules, and can adapt them to their unique circumstances.
Said Earnest: "The fact is, this is an issue that politicians in Washington have been putting off for too long."
Obama noted that there will be critics who say the plan will cut jobs and "cynics who say it cannot be done," but they are parroting "special interests" and their allies in Congress.
"We've heard these same stale arguments before," he said, and they have not been borne out. "They're simply excuses for inaction."

Reports of second object found on Reunion Island:Flight 370

A second part of suspected plane debris has been found on the Indian Ocean Island of Reunion, according to media reports Sunday.
The item was handed to authorities after it washed ashore south of the island's capital of St Denis in the north, according to the the BBC.
The broadcaster said it is believed to be a plane door. Sky News reported the object was initially thought to be an aircraft door, but that cannot now be confirmed.
Sky News said the object was discovered in a different location to a wing flap, which was found on a beach in the town of Saint Andre, on the northeast of the island on Wednesday. The new object has Chinese and Malaysian writing on it, according to the broadcaster.
The wing flap, suspected to be from the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, arrived at a testing facility in France on Saturday. The 8-foot flaperon was escorted to the DGA TA aeronautical testing site near Toulouse, southern France, by police motorcycles and a police car.
Malaysia’s transport ministry confirmed Sunday that the flaperon had been verified as being from a Boeing 777, the same type of aircraft as Flight 370, which disappeared on March 8, 2014 after taking off from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, en route to Beijing with 239 people aboard.
Officials from the country said they would seek help from territories near Reunion to try to find more plane debris, the Associated Press reported.
AFP 543008145 I TAC TAC FRA -
Experts in Toulouse will begin work to determine whether the part came from the missing Boeing 777 on Wednesday, the Paris prosecutor's office said. Reunion is a French territory.
Aviation security expert Christophe Naudin told France's BFM-TV that just three 777s have crashed since 2013 and the other two were in completely different locations, the AP reported.
"One is in the United States, one in Ukraine, and this one in the Indian Ocean," he said. "In the aeronautic community there is no (doubt) on the issue of what the debris belongs to. We are all convinced that it belongs to this flight (370)."

Mahama Gunman Lands In London

The controversy surrounding the trial and sentencing of the 36-year-old man who is said to have wanted to kill President John Mahama has finally ended up at Amnesty International.
It follows a petition filed at the international human rights organisation by Lawyer Godwin Adjei-Gyamfi against what he termed as 'diabolical, gross abuse of process, miscarriage of justice and breach of fundamental human rights' of Charles Antwi, a native of Dadeasoaba in the Brong-Ahafo Region.Antwi was arrested last Sunday at the Ringway Gospel Centre branch of the Assemblies of God Church, where the president worships, with an unregistered gun and was alleged to have made clear his intention that he was looking for President Mahama to kill.

He was subsequently handed over to the Cantonments police and later to the National Security and finally landed in court on Tuesday where he, among other things, made weird claims to the effect that he made President Mills to die, expecting that he (Antwi) would be made the next president but President Mahama, who was at the time of President Mills' death the vice president, stole the presidency from him (Antwi).
It was for this reason he wanted to kill President Mahama, according to the jailed former taxi driver.

Presiding judge Francis Obiri immediately sentenced him to 10 years' imprisonment on the charge of illegal possession of firearm, raising public concern over the reason why the judge did not refer the young man to a psychiatric facility for examination, even though the convict's mother, Afia Agyapomaa, had pointed out that Charles was mentally unstable.
Argument.

Lawyer Adjei-Gyamfi, a former prosecutor at the Crown Court in the UK, argues that 'This is most absurd and diabolical as he is mentally unwell, was unrepresented by a lawyer and the maximum sentence on the statute books of the Republic of Ghana is five years' – the reason he wants Amnesty International head office in London, UK, to wade into the matter.
According to him, 'Judging from what the convict was saying in court that he 'wanted to kill the president and take over,' it suggests that the above named was severely mentally challenged' and therefore 'ought to have been granted a lawyer and immediately referred for psychiatric evaluation.'

It therefore baffles many Ghanaians that a man with such questionable character would be sentenced on the spot to 10 years' imprisonment.
The lawyer is therefore asking the human rights organisation to look into what he described as the 'absurdity' because 'the Republic of Ghana has become a land where the strong and rich enjoy justice and the poor is forgotten.'
Family And Friends.

Charles' mother had said her son had a record of mental illness as he often abused her when he was in his elements and referred to her as 'adoe' (monkey).
Details have also emerged that Charles once travelled to Libya and later to Spain and then to Italy where he was seeking 'greener pastures' before eventually being deported to Ghana after authorities there detected his mental challenge.
Three of the friends he travelled with to Libya were said to have had similar problems before they died.

A friend of Charles Antwi's has also narrated that he (Antwi) had been promising to make him (friend) his (Antwi's) body guard when he became president and that sometimes he chained his motorbike to his hand when going to bed to protect it from being stolen.
Charles was said to be driving a taxi in his village but had to be restrained because he could not abide by basic road traffic regulations.

According to his own friend, Charles used to drive at 180kph on deplorable roads in the area and used nine minutes to cover a distance that every driver used 30 minutes to do and that when he was asked to stop, he pleaded with the drivers' union to allow him drive at 150 kph, which defies logic.

With calls intensifying for Charles Antwi to be sent to a psychiatric doctor, a group of lawyers are said to be teaming up to go and appeal against his conviction since they believe he was not properly treated.
