Nayele 8-years jail term insufficient - Freddie Blay

Freddie Blay NPP Vice Chair

First vice-chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has said that the 8 years, 8 months sentence handed to Nayele Ametefeh by a UK court is insufficient.

The Isleworth Crown Court in the UK on Tuesday sentenced Nayele to eight years and eight months in prison.

The Ghanaian/Austrian lady, Nayele Ametefeh, was arrested on November 10 at the Heathrow Airport after attempting to enter the UK with the cocaine in her hand luggage.

She was subsequently charged with Class A drug trafficking and was arraigned before court.

Forensic analysis of the cocaine showed 79% purity and the street value is estimated at about 1.8 million Pounds.

She admitted in her first appearance through video link that she is guilty of the charges leveled against her; carrying cocaine into the UK.

But the NPP First Vice-Chair on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen noted that, “I’m sorry, but the 8-year jail term against the lady is insufficient. To the families, I am sorry, but that sentence was unfair,” he said.

He questioned why the source of the cocaine was not mentioned during the trial and also why Nayele refused to mention names of the big men she dealt with.

“It is very unfortunate, but I think this 8-year sentence is insufficient and bias,” he opined.
