Alabama hunter captures 1,011.5-pound 'monster' alligator

A monster alligator weighing 1,011.5 pounds measuring 15-feet long is pictured in Thomaston, Ala. on Aug. 16. The alligator was caught in the Alabama River near Camden, Ala., by Mandy Stokes (right), along with her husband John Stokes, (far right), and her brother-in-law Kevin Jenkins and his two teenage children, Savannah Jenkins, 16, and Parker Jenkins, 14, of Thomaston, Ala.

Mandy Stokes and her crew captured the largest alligator ever legally killed in Alabama on Aug. 15, catching a monster gator that measured 15 feet long and weighed in at 1,011.5 pounds, reports Al.com.

They wrangled the alligator out of the Alabama River and brought it to a check-in station at a local state park, according to AP. It was so big that it broke the machine used to hoist it.

According to Al.com, the Thomaston, Ala., hunting crew fought the gator for more than five hours and even tried to shoot it — which just made it mad.

In addition to Mandy Stokes, the crew includes Stokes' husband, John, brother-in-law Kevin Jenkins and his kids, Savannah, 16 and Parker, 14.

Mandy Stokes stands with her daughter Molly Kate Stokes next to the large alligator. It weighs 1,011.5 pounds and is 15-feet long.  The monstrous gator is hoisted in the air by a tractor lift.
