Fans must forgive Black Stars - Maxwell Konadu

Coach Maxwell Konadu

The assistant coach of Ghana Maxwell Konadu has appealed to the local fans to bury the hatchet and support the Black Stars to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana struggled to draw 1-1 against Uganda at their own backyard in Kumasi in the Afcon qualifiers Saturday. They played under a tensed atmosphere as the local fans booed at them intermittently in a move to protest their behaviour in Brazil during the World Cup.

The Black Stars experienced their worst ever World Cup campaign since 2006 following their inability to make it out of the group stage for the first time since making it to the global football showpiece.

Coach Kwesi Appiah’s deputy said the outcome of the game was “disappointing” but the team will put itself “together and pull a surprise” against Togo on Wednesday.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Konadu pleaded with the local supporters to put the past behind them and look into the future.

“Definitely when you are playing before your teeming fans, and you realised things are not going behind you it doesn't help. We know that so many things have gone wrong. Once we don't have their support we can't continue to play well. Whatever has happened has happened, and we can't continue to blame them,” the former Asante Kotoko coach opined.
