Bloody hell! Taylor Swift is unlikely to make a cameo on season five of “Downton Abbey.” Producer Gareth Neame told Confidenti@l at the BBC and British Film Commission-sponsored BAFTA Tea Party in L.A. that the “Shake It Off” singer isn’t on their short list to appear on the popular Brit period piece.
“One thing I would say is that we don’t create parts for stars that want to be in the show,” said Neame, an Emmy-winning producer on the show that just gathered 12 BAFTA nominations. “We create characters to maintain the story and then we go and cast those parts.”
Neame continued, “We’ve been lucky to have some very interesting and some wonderful guest stars coming to the show into parts we created for the show.”
Shirley MacLaine, Paul Giamatti and Kiri Te Kanawa head the list of bold-face names who’ve appeared on the hit PBS series. “This show is more about coming back to the characters you’re invested in,” says Neame. “You root for those characters the more you think you get to know them.”
NICKI AND IGGY FIND HARMONY
Anyone hoping for backstage drama between Iggy Azalea and Nicki Minaj at the VMA’s left disappointed. The dueling divas, who’d seemingly spent an icy summer feuding, exchanged pleasantries on Sunday. “You did great,” Azalea told Minaj backstage after her VMA performance. Minaj replied, “Thank you baby,” and they both went about their business. At June’s BET Awards, rumors were rampant that Minaj was talking about Azalea when she faulted rappers who use ghostwriters. Follow-up tweets of that nature further fueled speculation of a feud.
